Hymans Giving Back

Ian and the team at Hymans are extremely passionate about giving back to the community. Over the past 30+ years, Hymans are proud to have raised tens of millions for charities, schools and individuals in need; and they won’t be stopping anytime soon. In addition to the fundraising events they organise and support, Hymans are committed to donating 2% of their turnover to charity annually, however, they always strive for more.

Ian’s dedication to supporting those living with a disability was born with his son, Alistair. Alistair was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth and only a short six weeks later, Ian was already a board member of the Down Syndrome Association. Down Syndrome is a congenital condition in which a person is born with an extra chromosome, chromosome 21. Affecting approximately one in 700 babies, this condition alters how a baby develops both physically and mentally and in some cases, can cause additional health problems including hearing loss, obstructive sleep apnea or heart defects. Although a lifelong condition, introducing services that support speech, occupational and physical therapy early in life gives those affected by Down Syndrome the ability to improve their physical and intellectual abilities, allowing them to grow to their full potential.

Since Alistair’s diagnosis, Ian’s involvement in charities and disability organisations has only grown and he continues to host charity events across Australia every year. In 2017, Ian’s incredible efforts were recognised with his awarding of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). Established by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, this prestigious award recognises outstanding achievements and service by Australian citizens.
