Common Questions

What is the Hymans turnaround time on plant and equipment valuations?

The turnaround time of a valuation depends on the size and purpose of the project, valuation methodology, access to the equipment, and available research in the market. For example, a one-off or custom-designed piece of equipment would take longer to value than a Toyota Hilux. It will help us provide you with a realistic turnaround time at the quoting stage if you can provide us with an asset schedule.

Can you provide valuation estimates 'sight unseen'?

Depending on the item in question and the purpose of the valuation, we may be able to complete a sight unseen assessment, based on information and photographs. However, a sight unseen assessment is different to a valuation. Depending on the purpose of the project, a sight unseen assessment may not be appropriate.

After Hymans has valued my equipment, can you help me sell it?

Our full service offering goes from valuation to realisation. We will include specific sales recommendations in our final valuation report, and we have a dedicated auction team that can identify the best disposal program for your equipment.

Business Valuations

Business valuation is a growing area of the valuation profession due to the increasing availability of capital and loan funds to acquire businesses as well a significant upside in business restructuring. Ian Hyman is a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years standing and is an experienced business valuer. Ian and his team work predominantly in the SME space valuing businesses with turnovers ranging from $1m to $100m for a number of purposes.

Ian and his team understand key drivers and “rules of thumb” for most industries, including industry challenges and opportunities. We live and breathe valuations every day, so our breadth of knowledge and experience is second to none.

At Hymans, we work in a very fast-paced environment; our clients regularly require a 7-14 day turnaround from issuing instructions to the finalised report. We are used to working with urgency and delivering on time. Business valuations do not need to cost an arm and a leg: we rarely see conventional assignments where the valuation costs exceed $10,000, and most instructions are in the $3,000-$6,000 (ex GST) range. There is no need to guess what your business is worth – contact Hymans and let our experts provide you with an informed value.

Hymans undertake over 100 valuations each year for business restructures which enable the facilitation of sales of distressed businesses to a new entity or to support a Deed of Company Arrangement.

The end of a business partnership can be a tense and complex time. Let Hymans help you navigate your way through with an expert valuation report and our professional advice.

Acquisitions & Sales
Looking to buy or sell a business? Get in touch with Hymans to make sure all of your bases are covered – including intangibles such as business goodwill and intellectual property.

Mergers
If two or more business are engaged in a merger each business will generally need to be valued so that an appropriate number of shares can be issued in the new entity.

Where shares in a privately owned business are transferred to a beneficiary after a death it is advisable to undertake a valuation at the date of the transfer for Capital Gains Tax Purposes as this will be the reference point for taxation in the event that the business or shares are sold in the future.

Common Questions

How much does a business valuation cost?

The cost of a business valuation depends on a number of factors including the purpose of the valuation, the information available, the timeframe, and the values required. Generally, cost of a business valuation will fall somewhere between $3,000 and $10,000 exclusive of GST.

What is the Hymans turnaround time on business valuations?

The turnaround time of a business valuation depends on the availability of complete and concise company documents. It is also impacted by access to relevant company staff (such as CEOs, CFOs, Directors, etc.) to answer questions and offer clarification. In most cases, we will be able to provide an accurate timeline once we have reviewed the available information and discussed the scope of the project with stakeholders. As a guide we anticipate 7-15 business days depending on complexity and the quality of the information provided.

Can you give me a “gut feel” valuation?

The short answer is no! Business valuations are complex and detail-oriented. Hymans will need to read and analyse relevant documents such as profit and loss statements, balance sheets, tax returns, budgets and the like to complete a business valuation.
